Quickstart

When beginning your migration journey with Dr Migrate, you have two powerful options to choose from: Quickstart Wizard and Guided Planning. Each approach is designed to fit different needs and preferences, so you can get the most value from your migration experience.

The Quickstart Wizard and Guided Planning options will appear as soon as your data is synced into Dr Migrate. This is your first step after uploading or integrating your discovery results.

Quickstart Wizard and Guided Planning options in Dr Migrate: Choose between an automated quickstart or a step-by-step guided planning process.

The Quickstart Wizard is designed for users who want to get up and running quickly. With just a few clicks, Dr Migrate will:

  • Automatically map your applications
  • Assign default 6R treatments (such as Lift-and-Shift/Rehost)
  • Generate an initial wave plan

This means you’ll have immediate access to a pre-built Advanced Insights report tailored to your environment. You can review this baseline plan and refine it further as your needs evolve.

Even though the Quickstart Wizard makes initial decisions for you, you always retain full control. You can adjust application mapping, 6R treatments, and wave planning at any time to better match your goals.

Guided Planning

If you prefer a more hands-on approach, Guided Planning lets you walk through each migration phase step by step. You’ll be able to:

  • Map applications manually
  • Define your migration goals and pathways
  • Plan your migration strategy, modernization targets, treatments, sizing, and wave planning in detail

Your Advanced Insights report will update as you complete each phase, giving you a comprehensive and customized migration plan.

  • Those aligning migration with broader modernization strategies or organizational processes

Which Should You Choose?

Both options are designed to help you succeed—choose the one that best fits your needs:

  • Choose Quickstart Wizard if you want to get started fast and are happy to refine a baseline plan.
  • Choose Guided Planning if you want to step through each decision and customize your migration plan in detail.

No matter which path you take, Dr Migrate gives you the flexibility and control to achieve your migration goals.
