DMC Package & Licensing
The Dr Migrate Collector (DMC) is a disconnected tool used for data collection in migration assessments, particularly in environments where Azure Migrate is not viable (e.g., air-gapped networks or VMware-heavy estates).
What’s Included in the Package?
Each downloadable DMC package includes:
- The latest version of the DMC toolset
- A 30-day access key (not a license key)
- Metadata to associate the run with a specific customer
DMC is not installed or updated automatically. It is a manual, self-contained download that must be refreshed regularly to ensure supportability.
Why Is There a 30-Day Limit?
DMC does not require a separate license. However, each download comes with a 30-day access key. This is not a license key—it’s a lightweight mechanism designed to ensure version compatibility in offline environments.
🔒 Why the 30-Day Access Period Exists
- Offline tool, no phone home: DMC is completely self-contained. Because it doesn’t check for updates online, we need to ensure users don’t run outdated versions indefinitely.
- Avoid upload issues: Older versions may produce scan files that are incompatible with the current Dr Migrate ingestion pipeline.
- Prevent support problems: Running stale builds can lead to failures or incomplete results, causing unnecessary troubleshooting.
- Simple refresh process: After 30 days, if you still need to scan, just re-download the latest package from your Dr Migrate instance. There’s no need to request access again if your main license is still active.
How Long Does the Package Last?
- Each DMC package is valid for 30 days from first use.
- If the tool expires, you can download a fresh package from your Dr Migrate instance as long as your main license is still active.
How Often Can I Download It?
As often as you like, provided your Dr Migrate license is active.
- There is no enforced limit on the number of downloads.
- This ensures that you’re always working with a current and supportable version of the tool.
